Fabulous Fall Day

Today was one of those days where I had to 'de-school' myself (again) ;). I had a bunch of ideas in my head of all the great things we could do this morning. I'd planned a really fun project learning about Native Americans. But they had zero interest in that topic today. So...after a bit of a fuss from me I told myself to roll with it and see what they were interested in today. Miss 11 decided she wanted to make maple syrup carmel popcorn for us to eat for a morning snack. We measured together, talked about fractions and practiced adding them up based on the recipe. Math is always needed in the kitchen and we so often find ourselves there and have a lot of fun at the same time!

After eating the sweet popcorn they had some ENERGY. Miss 9 suggested they ride their scooters around the house. They had so much fun! And yes, we have 2 Christmas trees up and yes, it's only the beginning of November. But we LOVE Christmas time so we start early. The wimpy looking tree we've had for years and they love to use it for play. They make felt nests in it and place their little gnomes and fairies and stuffed animals in the tree for a good hour or so of pretend play time.

Then Miss 9 suggested we play Mario Monopoly. More math -yay! We added and subtracted as we made and lost money. I started to forget about my 'plans' for the day and let them lead.

After game time they needed to run. So, off to the beach we went! We feel so fortunate to live so close to a beach. I grew up in the Midwest with not a beach in site so moving to CA was a dream come true. They played some soccer and did some sister bonding while there <3

After the super refreshing beach stop we walked back home and they played Minecraft with a couple of friends who live out of state. Another beautiful day of loving and learning <3!
